Dearest family and friends,
Hello from Olney! Transfers have come and gone. I am still serving in Olney, I am still with Sister Guimaraes and I am still driving our beautiful truck, Victoria. I am glad that I am staying. I LOVE my area. They Lord is blessing me.
Much has happened... President and Sister Price are moving today and President and Sister Mansell will be here tomorrow!! I have already briefly corresponded with President Mansell through email. I am the chairman of the upcoming missionary musical fireside for this coming Tuesday. I have asked President Mansell to speak at the end of the program and he was delighted and excited to do so. He seems wonderful and I am excited for the new changes and spirit he will bring to the mission. The fireside has been fun to plan. I love having so many opportunities to use my talents. I will be singing "Joseph Smith's First Prayer" to the tune of "Homeward Bound". It should be lovely. I will let you know how it goes.
This past week we had the Washington DC Mormon Choir perform at the VC. Much of the music performed was music I performed while in the many choirs I have participated in. It brought back many wonderful memories and even made me slightly trunky. I love music and I miss performing. The choir had a guest performer and recent convert perform two songs. You may recognize his name, Sam Warren. He was a member of the Drifters. He is a wonderful man. I was able to chat with him for a while. What a treat! During the fireside I also met one of Joey's friends, Ken. He lived in the same hall as Joey at BYU.
The work is going well in Olney. We found a family to teach! We found them tracting and they are very prepared. We taught them this last Sunday. It was wonderful. They are a younger couple with four children. The father was intrigued by Joseph Smith's story and about the priesthood. He is a good father and desires the best for his small, growing family. We stopped by again the other day and gave a Book of Mormon children's book to the eldest daughter. She loved it and we immediately began reading it with her. We also helped the sweet young mother with folding her laundry. Who would have thought I would ever enjoy doing laundry! I guess all those years of helping Mom have paid off. They will come to church on Sunday and they will be baptized!! (language of faith) We have been praying for a family to teach. I love this work!
Courtney was supposed to be baptized on Sunday, but we had to move the date back into July. She is READY to be baptized, but has a hard family situation. She has been meeting us at the VC. She loves the temple and the VC. She is excited for the time that she will be able to serve a mission and be married in the temple. I love her and I am praying for the Lord to strengthen her in her righteous decision to be baptized. We are praying to know what the Lord would have us do.
Dad, I am so grateful for your advice. This is the Lord's work, not Sister Hogge's work. I am an instrument for the Lord to fulfill his purposes in Washington DC. I know that this is his work and that he leads and guides his missionaries, only if we are willing to listen. I am learning to let go of my pride and to love. I need the Lord's help. I cannot do any of his work alone and I cannot be the person he needs me to be without his help. I always pray for strength and I am learning the importance of relying on the Lord. It feels good to rely on him for strength and peace.
Well, I would have written sooner, but many things have happened. When I was trying to email you last night at the VC I hit my head on a cabinet. It hurt, but it was also pretty funny and I felt silly. I've been hitting my head on many things lately. I love you and I love being a missionary.

Hello family and friends,
This past week has been wonderful and not so wonderful. Seeing Mom and Hilly was wonderful! Galena was amazing. I was so proud of Hilly. The Lord really blessed me not to feel homesick at all. I was grateful to see my family and friends, but even more grateful to stay focused on the work. The Lord blesses those who are obedient and faithful.
Hilly was beautiful in the show. All the VC sisters and senior couples can't get enough of her. They LOVED her and every other performer as well!! They were all impressed by her beauty and talents, especially the singing and clogging. I was so proud of Hilly. She has become quite the performer. I sat watching the show, absolutely beaming with happiness and love for my sister. Watching the show brought back many fun and exciting memories. Everyone was so impressed with the professionalism of the performers and the quality of the show. I was proud to be a Galena alumni. There were times during the show that I wanted to get up and dance and sing, but I contained myself.
Mom and I spent some time on a tour at the VC. Taking Mom on a tour was strange at first, but it got comfortable soon thereafter. I gave her a tour on love. It warmed my heart to be with Mom and Hilly. It felt like I hadn't even left them. The warm hugs and tears of joy were sweet. I love my family and my love for my family has only deepened.
Transfers are coming this Tuesday. I have a feeling that I will be transferred, but I could just be scaring myself. I love the people and beauty of Olney. I would love to stay, but I know that the Lord always knows best. This has become a theme for my mission and my life. President and Sister Price will also be leaving this coming week. Our prayers are with them and President and Sister Mansel (the new mission president) every day. We love them and we know that they love us. Their departure will be bittersweet.
This week has been a hard week with our investigators. We're having to drop many of our investigators due to their lack of progression. It's difficult to let them go, but now is not their time. We are currently looking for new investigators, which can be exciting. We are also working to prepare Courtney for her baptism on July 1st. She is amazing and meeting with her gives me peace and hope. I love her and I am excited to see her progression throughout her life.
I have been learning many things about myself this week. I am learning to be more diligent spiritually, mentally, and especially physically. No missionary can be diligent by themselves. The Lord's help is always needed and desired. The weather has been disgustingly humid lately which makes it difficult to find the excitement to be outside, but thankfully I am also a VC sister and can quickly find the joys of working inside an air conditioned building. Yes, I know that I am spoiled, but I am also very grateful. I am also learning to be humble.
Lately in my studies I have been reading stories from the New Testament along with "Jesus the Christ." I am learning about the life of our Savior and it has created in me a deeper love for him. I love reading the Book of Mormon and the New Testament. I love what I learn and I enjoy helping others learn about the life and love of our Savior. Yesterday we were invited into a home while tracting. Soon we found ourselves being horribly bashed by a Jehovah's Witness family. The Spirit was completely gone. I felt sad for these good people who truly believed that they had the truth. We were kind and all we could do was testify. Once we were done with our discussion they were kind and invited us back. The joys of being a missionary.
I love this great work and I hope to become a better instrument in the Lord's hands.

Dear Family and Friends,
I have much to say. This past week has been exhausting, yet wonderful. We had our P-Day on Tuesday and it was nice to "relax". I have learned to make granola! I love it! I am learning how to be healthy and use my money wisely. I hope to be more thrifty and a better cook when I come home. We'll see how it goes.
Tuesday night we met with Courtney. She is wonderful. We love her and pray for her constantly. We know that the Lord would have her be baptized. We prayed about a baptismal date and committed her to be baptized July 1st, the Sunday after transfers. I hope to stay in Olney at least one more transfer, but I know that the Lord knows best. Courtney often meets us at the VC and she loves the Spirit that dwells here. It truly is special. After a lesson we took her to the Special Witnesses kiosk where Elder Scott bears his powerful testimony of baptism. After we listened to his words we told her that the Lord would have her be baptized on July 1st. She accepted! I was so happy. The Spirit was incredibly strong. I feel privileged to assist the Lord in bringing souls back to him. Please keep Courtney in your prayers. She has already run into much opposition and we had warned her that opposition would come, but she is solid. I love her!!
Yesterday was a beautiful day. We got up at 5am (too early) to meet our zone at the temple. The entire mission met at the temple for a conference in the Solemn Assemblies room on the 7th floor. We all got dressed in our white clothing and met in the room. It was a beautiful sight! The room was beautiful. President and Sister Price spoke to us along with President and Sister Banks (from the temple presidency). My heart was full. Being sisters, we had the opportunity to sit on the front row!
After the conference they split the mission into two groups. Each group went into two endowment rooms. Our group had the opportunity to watch the endowment in sign language and with captions! What an experience! I learned so much about the endowment and the sacred covenants we make with our Heavenly Father. The feelings were very sacred during the session. President and Sister Price greeted us as we came into the Celestial Room. Seeing the entire mission in the Celestial Room in their temple clothing was beautiful. I just cried, my heart was so full. I sat down on the soft seats in the Celestial Room and prayed thanking my Heavenly Father for such a sacred experience and for my blessings.
I love being a missionary. I love it!

Hello from beautiful Olney!
So much has been happening lately and I've been feeling a bit overwhelmed, but I try not to let it get to me. I think I realize how much has been happening when I sit down to write the events of the past week.
I am learning so much and I am loving it! It can be overwhelming, but I have been praying to retain the knowledge that the Lord is blessing me with through His Spirit. I have a strong desire to remember everything. I am learning how wonderful the scriptures are. I love reading the Book of Mormon every day and I apply what I learn to people I meet or to the events of the day. I am grateful for the scriptures and they are precious to me.
Yesterday the mission went to a Washington Nationals baseball game. It was EXCITING and FUN! I loved it! We were all allowed to wear hats. I bought a pink DC baseball hat after the game, two for $5. I thought that I could wear it next year when we go to another baseball game. I bought a huge hot dog for lunch at the game. All the missionaries were looking at me funny with my HUGE hot dog. It was delicious! Gotta love an all-American lunch at a baseball game... it was divine! I have to admit I felt a little awkward at the game. The music that was playing was definitely not church music. I found myself automatically singing or dancing to the music after which I had to contain myself. On the way to the game we rode the metro. I love riding the metro because we can talk with people about the gospel, give them pass-a-long cards, and invite them to receive the missionaries. The Lord is helping me step out of my comfort zone. Well, the Nationals lost. I think I only watched about the last 5 mintues of the game. It was too much fun to just sit, I wanted to socialize!! Next week we get to have a meeting inside the temple with the entire mission. We will do a session following the conference.
Courtney is progressing. She is wonderful! She is beautiful, intelligent, and very mature. I connect well with her and I love her. She is a strength to me through the adversity that she faces. She is genuine and an example to others around her. I don't know if I mentioned Courtney last week. She attends church faithfully every week and reads the Book of Mormon. She always comes prepared to our appointments with questions from the Book of Mormon and of things that she has been reading. She is a missionary's dream! I know that the Lord would have her be baptized very soon, but her family's beliefs and opinions of the church are different. I pray that the Lord will bless her with the courage and strength to move foward with what the Lord would have her do.
I am learning that the most important thing in life is the gospel and everything else is junk and clutter. I desire for the Lord to purify my heart. I desire to be diligent physically, mentally, and spiritually. I desire to use the Lord's time well. I pray for the strength to act on the things that I desire. I love this work. I am only beginning to see how selfish I have been all my life. We see our weaknesses; we do not dwell on them, but we move forward with faith to be better. I know that the Lord is blessing me.

Hello!
I don't have much time to write. Our library is closed for the next few weeks. I will have to email at the VC for a few weeks. Anyway, life is wonderful!! Mom, thank you soooo much for the package. I loved everything you sent. It was like Christmas!! I received it just after I finished my session at the temple, so I will begin doing the work for my family the next time I do a session which is in two weeks. Thank you for sending my temple dress and names to do work for. These things are very special to me.
Next week the mission will be going to a baseball game...the entire mission. We have permission to wear hats...I'm so excited. We will be watching the Washington Nationals. In two weeks we will be having a meeting with the entire mission in the temple. So much will be happening within the next few weeks. We are so blessed and I am so spoiled.
Some exciting news... A young man who came into the VC a few weeks ago (I don't know if I mentioned his story. I taught him a first lesson tour with another sister. He was sooo prepared.) is getting baptized June 2nd!! It's not often that we get to see the fruits of our labors. Also, I just heard that another family that I gave a tour to a few weeks ago is also getting baptized this coming month. I believe I shared their experience with you. I am so happy for these people that I love dearly. The young man has come into the VC many times since I first met him. He is already being a great missionary and has brought all of his family to the VC. I met his parents and I am excited for the example he is already setting for his family.
The other day a couple came into the VC from India. I gave them a temple tour, discovered they are Christian, and invited them to receive a copy of the BOM along with a visit with the missionaries. They accepted. The couple just happened to be leaving for India the following day. I sent their information through and the missionaries in India will have a family to teach. I asked President Price if I could call the couple and ask for referrals, but he told me of the no proselyting rules. At least the doors are being opened for the gospel to be preached in India. People from all over the world come to the VC and I'm especially excited when people from different countries accept a missionary visit. The Lord's work is moving forward quickly.
A young man in our ward received his mission call to the Milano, Italy mission. I am very excited for him, especially because it was Dad's mission.
We taught Lisa the second lesson on the Plan of Salvation this week. She loved it! She has children and the second lesson always helps a family progress towards our Savior. I received a letter from dad that day about the anniversary of Grandpa Joe's death and I was able to share my thoughts about his death with Lisa. Letters always come exactly when I need them. We hope to help her progress towards baptism. She is wonderful, but it might take some time. Missionaries must be patient with the Lord too.
Life is very busy and it's just getting busier and busier. I am grateful for all of the love and support from friends and family.

Some exciting news... A young man who came into the VC a few weeks ago (I don't know if I mentioned his story. I taught him a first lesson tour with another sister. He was sooo prepared.) is getting baptized June 2nd!! It's not often that we get to see the fruits of our labors. Also, I just heard that another family that I gave a tour to a few weeks ago is also getting baptized this coming month. I believe I shared their experience with you. I am so happy for these people that I love dearly. The young man has come into the VC many times since I first met him. He is already being a great missionary and has brought all of his family to the VC. I met his parents and I am excited for the example he is already setting for his family.
The other day a couple came into the VC from India. I gave them a temple tour, discovered they are Christian, and invited them to receive a copy of the BOM along with a visit with the missionaries. They accepted. The couple just happened to be leaving for India the following day. I sent their information through and the missionaries in India will have a family to teach. I asked President Price if I could call the couple and ask for referrals, but he told me of the no proselyting rules. At least the doors are being opened for the gospel to be preached in India. People from all over the world come to the VC and I'm especially excited when people from different countries accept a missionary visit. The Lord's work is moving forward quickly.
A young man in our ward received his mission call to the Milano, Italy mission. I am very excited for him, especially because it was Dad's mission.
We taught Lisa the second lesson on the Plan of Salvation this week. She loved it! She has children and the second lesson always helps a family progress towards our Savior. I received a letter from dad that day about the anniversary of Grandpa Joe's death and I was able to share my thoughts about his death with Lisa. Letters always come exactly when I need them. We hope to help her progress towards baptism. She is wonderful, but it might take some time. Missionaries must be patient with the Lord too.
Life is very busy and it's just getting busier and busier. I am grateful for all of the love and support from friends and family.
